About HiFiRated
Jordan Kim
Audio Engineer & Gear Reviewer
Former audio engineer at a San Francisco post-production studio. I've spent 10+ years tracking, mixing, and A/B testing gear in professional environments. Every product on HiFiRated has been evaluated against real-world listening and recording use cases — not spec sheets.
Why this site exists
The HiFi internet is full of review sites that recommend whatever pays the highest affiliate rate. The audiophile community on Reddit has better signal — but it's buried under threads, tribal wars, and contradictory opinions.
HiFiRated started as a personal spreadsheet tracking every piece of gear I tested at the studio, then took home, then compared against community consensus. Eventually it became something worth publishing.
How we evaluate products
Every recommendation on this site comes from:
- Personal listening tests — Every piece of gear I recommend has been tested in my listening room for at least a month, across a reference track library I have memorized.
- Reddit sentiment analysis — r/audiophile, r/headphones, r/homerecording, and related communities. I read and aggregate community feedback over months, not days.
- Measurement data — Cross-referenced with published frequency response measurements from Oratory1990, Crinacle, and other trusted measurement sources.
- Amazon verified purchase reviews — For long-term reliability and real-world quality control signals, especially for budget gear where variance matters.
Affiliate disclosure
HiFiRated participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you purchase through links on this site, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site stays funded and free of ads.
Affiliate relationships do not influence recommendations. Every product recommendation is something I have personally tested. I do not accept review samples in exchange for positive coverage.
Content update policy
Every product page has a "Last updated" date. Content is revisited when new firmware, successor models, significant price changes, or new measurement data materially affects the recommendation. Reviews don't silently go stale.
